“Kill For Candy” Available Now!

DREAMCAR has debuted their brand new single “Kill For Candy” which is available to download and stream on all digital platforms. The band’s debut self-titled album, DREAMCAR, is set to release on May 12 under Columbia Records and a mini-Spring tour has been announced with the band traveling around California with a select date in Phoenix in early April.

Produced by Neon Trees’ Tim Pagnotta and mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Push and Shove) in a North Hollywood studio, “Kill For Candy” is super impressive and a solid debut track. We can definitely hear a strong ’80s influence that reminds us of some of the best offerings from The Cure and Duran Duran. The song also has an incredibly modern sound that comes across as fresh and nothing like anything else on the radio. Tom, Tony and Adrian’s distinct sound come through quiet clear on “Kill For Candy” and Davey’s delivery is truly spectacular on-top of the synthesized rock song. “Kill For Candy” is really, really cool and we’re so happy for the band and excited to finally hear what the group has been working on secretly for nearly three years!

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Tony says the track is a “great way to introduce the band to the world” and is extremely excited for the everyone to hear what’s to come from the band.

The band joined KROQ’s Kevin & Bean morning show in-studio this morning to debut “Kill For Candy” which was also streamed on Facebook Live on DREAMCAR’s page. The song is already gaining positive buzz and looks to be a huge hit with fans! The artwork for the single is incredible and creative and reminds us of those arty progressive rock covers from the late 70s. Lead singer Davey Havok stated in the interview that “Kill For Candy” was one of the first songs Tom, Tony, and Adrian had written and shared with him.

I didn’t leave a thing behind
But you can’t say I didn’t try

I didn’t take a thing with me
But please don’t say you’re left displeased

Miss, you misunderstand me
Me, I kill for candy

I’d left before you said goodbye
What’s left to say beyond a lie?

What’s on our tongues
Is less discreet
Before it dissolves
It’s oh so sweet

Miss, you misunderstand me
Me, I kill for candy

Let it dissolve on your tongue
Let me dissolve on your tongue

Miss, you misunderstand me
Me, I kill for candy

  1. Now this needs a killer video. It’s a nice single to introduce their sound. This is will be a major throwback to the early 80s.

  2. It reminds me of flock of seagulls! The intro is so good. I didn’t expect davey’s voice to sound this good. I do wish the chorus was better but its still a great debut single!

  3. I was surprised to see it at position 149 on iTunes! 🙂

I’m not 100% in love with it, but I think it will grow on me and I bought it and subsequently gave it 5 stars to support our boys! So happy for them and I agree that it needs a killer video!!!

  4. I think it is ok for what it is. It’s not really something that has never been done before, but it’s definitely not bad. Reminds me a lot of The Killers’ first album.

  5. I don’t know much about The Killers, but it does remind me of The Cure.

Just wish there was less “ooowooohooo’s” lol But it has definitely grown on me! Can’t wait to hear more!

  6. The Killers who completely borrow from the Eighties lol Anyway Dreamcar’s single is straight up 80s, pure new wave/new romantic.

  7. If I didn’t know who this was, I would guess this is by The Killers, The Bravery or Editors, especially the chorus. BUT the song is fine and sounds authentic despite the similarities. It has grown on me, I find it catchier with every listen.

The production and instrumentation is great, obviously on a superior level to ”Stand and Deliver” and Push and Shove, which were so inexplicably glossy and overproduced.

p.d: Love the visual for the lyric video. It’s precise.

    1. I personally loved the polished sound of Push and Shove, however maybe that’s because I was a Gwen Stefani fan first then went back and discovered how wonderful No Doubt was. That’s probably why part of me appreciates the clean production on PaS. (Gravity is a bit much though even though I love that song)

  8. Love it and the throwback British influence. Sounds better than anything on the charts now for sure. Hip hop, rap, is descending so this is needed.
It sounds familiar yet fresh, as Jenny said.

  9. I snagged two tix for the Roxy gig. I’m so excited! I love the sound. I’m a junkie for some good ol saxophone , can’t wait to hear the track that features it. Sooo excited!

  10. I like the new song! I am not too thrilled with his voice though– Davey looks like the rich guy from House on Haunted Hill

  11. “The band will make their their network television debut performing “Kill for Candy” on Jimmy Kimmel Live April 18th.” Wow, that’s a great gig!

  12. Someone needs to get a recording of the first show. I’m dying to hear more of the debut album. Kill for Candy was actually a lot better than I expected!
