Everyone here at BSO would like to wish No Doubt and their latest full album release, Rock Steady, a very happy 10 year anniversary! Wow, seriously it’s been 10 years? Literally, it seems like only yesterday that we were all freaking out about the leaks, the “Hey Baby” video, No Doubt winning their first Grammy awards, key to the city, etc. So much promo went around this album and the band again was on TV everywhere. The album spawned some of the band’s biggest hits: “Hey Baby”, “Hella Good” and “Underneath It All” “Hey Baby” was such a huge success on the radio that they actually pushed forward the release of the album a week early to debut on December 11, 2001. The album also was one of the first times the band worked with different producers and artists including N.E.R.D., Dave Stewart, Prince and Ric Ocasek. They also worked with hip-hop producers Dr. Dre and Timbaland on a couple tracks that didn’t make the album. Rock Steady was also made all around the world — from Los Angeles to London to Jamaica. It was all about having a good time with the music and each other, and it shows. There are so many different and full styles of music on this album to rock driven pop (“Don’t Let Me Down”) to dancehall favorites with “Hey Baby” and “Start The Fire”. It was incredible. No Doubt really did go back to their roots.
Rock Steady went on to sell over 3,000,000 copies and ranked #316 on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The band toured around the world and Rock Steady Live was filmed over two days in Long Beach, California at the end of their US tour.
We wanted to look back at some of our personal favorite moments from the era! And tell us what your favorite Rock Steady track is!
