So it looks like the news about No Doubt performing “Stand and Deliver” is making the rounds online already, and everybody seems to have an opinion about it. They will be featured on the season finale May 11 on CW’s Gossip Girls.
As No Doubt’s 1995 hit Tragic Kingdom proved, Gwen Stefani is no stranger to a little drama in the boy department. Which is obvs why Blair and Serena, the boy-crazed, wildly-spoiled high school student protagonists of hit series Gossip Girl, invited Stefani and the boys to perform on the show. After all, Blair and Serena are totally, like, real people and they totes need some face with Gwen.
According to a post on No Doubt’s website, the band will make an appearance on the series’ May 11 episode (8 P.M. EST on the CW). Even more apt: The quartet will cover Adam and the Ants’ “Stand and Deliver,” which, coincidentally, speaks to class struggle, robbing the rich for the poor, and the plights of “easy fashion, the clumsy boots, peek-a-boo roots that people think so dashing.” Whew! That’ll, like, totally resonate on the Upper East Side!
Will Dan, Serena, and Dan’s dad, Rufus, all stumble into a punk concert while chasing Nate’s coke-crazed dad? Will the band be a guest performer at a punk-themed party at Blair’s Park Avenue spread? Will those who could care less about Gossip Girl tune in anyway to see one of the first “live” glimpses of No Doubt in ’09? We can only wait and see. (Spin)
You know you love them, Gossip Girl fans: No Doubt will be the first chart-topping band to perform on the CW show for its second-to-last episode on May 11. What song will they play for everyone’s favorite Upper East Side teen queens of mean? “Stand and Deliver,†originally by Adam and the Ants. (People)
Before embarking on their reunion tour, No Doubt will reuinite on an episode of Gossip Girl on May 11th. Why Gossip Girl? Probably because there’s no more TRL and that entire audience has emigrated to GG. According to the No Doubt website, Gwen Stefani and the rest of the gang will perform a cover of Adam & The Ants’ “Stand And Deliver,†from the new wavers’ Prince Charming album.
We’re not sure in what context the band will appear, whether they’ll be integrated into the show’s plot or just appear in concert. Gossip Girl lacks a common venue like Beverly Hills 90210’s Peach Pit, which once hosted the Flaming Lips, so it’s possible Blair, Serena and the rest of those Upper East Siders will spend that episode at a No Doubt concert, a plotline stolen directly out of Season 6 of Dawson’s Creek, when that whole WB crew went to see the band perform. Don’t ask us how we know these things.
No Doubt will perform their first reunion show together at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s Bamboozle East on May 3rd before their tour kicks off officially on May 16th with a special performance at Tiger Woods’s Tiger Jam benefit in Las Vegas. Paramore will serve as No Doubt’s opener on the tour. (Rolling Stone)
