Women’s Wear Daily caught a few moments with Gwen before she hit the L.A.M.B. after-party hosted by Mr. Brainwash. It’s cute how she mentions they used No Doubt music during the show cause Tom and Tony were there, it was both of their first runway show. “Hey Baby” and both of the “Rock Steady” remixes from EIT were featured during the show.
WWD — Gwen Stefani was one of the first celebrities to launch a fashion line. And she probably won’t be the last. But the musician-cum-designer could certainly consider as bragging rights bringing New York Fashion Week to a close with her L.A.M.B. show Thursday evening. And naturally, a blow-out after party to go with it, hosted by ARC New York and street artist Mr. Brainwash. As the likes of Kanye West, Susan Sarandon, Estelle and Nicky Hilton showed up to pay their respects, Stefani took a break from her fete to chat with WWD about fabrics, food and her tendency to lazy gene.
WWD: How do you think the show went?
Gwen Stefani: I think it was amazing. A lot of us got really dirty and went up to Montreal and got our hands into the fabrics and a lot of great stuff happened. I feel like the collection has finally had that consistency to it — it felt more real.
WWD: What are you going to do now that it’s over?
G.S.: I am so ready to go home. I have had my fashion fix. I’m going to stay out as long as my feet will let me. I just had a big slice of pizza on the way here, so I am feeling kinda good right now.
WWD: How did your music inspire the collection?
G.S.: [DJ] Jeremy [Healy] does the music for me, and he sent me one song that triggered the whole thing. It was a reggae-dance song. It had to go that direction because everything was very summery, prints, colorful and happy and beachy. It’s all kind of gently “African Queen,†you know? I put a lot of No Doubt in there because they came to the show, and they had never been before.
WWD: What do you think of the term “celebrity designer
G.S.: I think it’s fine. Why shouldn’t somebody be able to do a couple different kinds of art? I always only do things I feel passionate about. I am really lazy generally. My favorite thing is to lie at home and watch TV and eat, just like everybody else. I would rather do that all day long, but when I get passionate about something, I get really obsessed. It’s either procrastination or obsessive, and that’s it. I have kind of accepted that about myself.
