Video: Gwen Announces Solo Shows on Today

It’s official! Gwen appeared on Today this morning with a new interview and confirmed that she is set for her first solo show (with possibly more on the way) in over six years. On performing, Gwen says that “it never gets old” and everything is really exciting for her right now. She calls 2014 “the fastest year ever” and was full of surprises including having her third son, working on The Voice and her new third solo album.

Gwen says that she’s been listening to her old songs again and re-learning them all. She admits that she doesn’t remember any of the lyrics from her past solo albums. “It was such a moment in time”.

On recording her new album, Gwen says that she doesn’t have a plan and she is still hard at work in the studio. “I think when I did the original record there was a clear direction. This time it’s a little bit more open.”

Gwen calls her and Pharrell working together again an unexpected surprise. “He has a gift to inspire you and motivate you.”

She shared what it’s like trying to divide her time between songwriting and her family and calls it “crazy”. She’s thankful for her amazing team and husband Gavin.

“You can try to be self-centered and all about you and that’s what it really takes to write songs. Trying to divide my time from being a parent and songwriting… it’s crazy. I do have a lot of incredible people around me,” including husband Gavin. “If I look back on the whole thing, the one thing that has been constant is that we both want the same thing. We both want to be married and be good parents and I feel really proud of what we’ve done together. You’re going to get me crying! [laughs] I’m going to get all emotional! But I do feel proud of it.”

Gwen is confirmed for two performances in the next few weeks including performing at the Men’s Handball World Championship on January 24 and a MasterCard exclusive show happening in Los Angeles on February 7. No other dates have been announced at this time.

Earlier this month, Gwen’s manager Irving Azoff revealed that he was working on putting together a tour for Gwen.

  1. GQ did a profile on Pharrell, he mentions Gwen: Pharrell himself is seated at a studio console, eating chicken soup and working on a song he’s writing for Snoop and Gwen Stefani. The song sounds pretty dope. I’m not going to try to describe it, but in honor of Pharrell’s synesthesia, I’ll say: It sounds bright green.

The profile is short if you have 3 minutes read it, it’s a good one.

  2. I just hope it’ll be an actual world tour and not just a US tour, so that also people from Europe (like me) get a chance to see her live. *fingers crossed*

  3. I didn’t get the impression that this was a full fledged tour… so… I’m not getting my hopes up. I’m thinking this sounds more like a few spots here and there and probably major cities, LA and NYC. Either way it’s cool, I just really really REALLY want more No Doubt. A girl can dream!!

  4. This is great news. One thing that’s confusing to me is a plan for the tour but “no plan” as Gwen said for the album. the timeline doesnt add up.

    1. Well, remember that the album was supposed to be out before Christmas. If either BDL or STF did better, it would be out by now. Since both songs flopped they had to delay the album – despite Gwen saying she wants to spend more time on it to make it more personal. She might realy be doing this now, but the truth is that the main reason for the album not being out by now is the lack of success with the lead singles. The shows she will be doing 2015 must have been planned and scheduled last year, when they all thought that the album would be released before the shows. I just hope she will premiere some of her new material at these shows.

  5. Yeah I hope this isn’t a full tour but just some spots. It’s nice that she’s performing some of her solo hits again though.

    1. I don’t see her doing a full tour either, but like you said just a few stops over the next few months. Hopefully it helps inspire her and we are able to hear new music sooner rather than later from both her and No Doubt.

  6. Super exciting! I wish the other dates were announced though. I wonder if she is going to go all out like she did on her first two tours with elaborate dancers, costume changes and set design. I hope she wears her alice in wonderland outfit for what you waiting for and her band uniform for hollaback girl! I am interested to see what setlist she will end up coming up with. I think probably all the singles from her solo career will be performed, except maybe now that you got it or crash. That only makes about 10 songs so I wonder if she will perform a few non singles (danger zone and bubble pop electric please!) or some new tracks we haven’t heard yet. Jenny you should do a poll to see what songs the fans want to hear again most. 🙂

  7. I see her doing a few shows here and there before the album gets released, now I’m more sure the release date will be around spring or summer. As a full tour? no, maybe a few dates on the US but I do see her doing some stops on Europe.

  8. I am so relieved that this announcement was music related and not about a cartoon or other side project. I have a feeling it will just be some big city shows here or there, but a full tour would be awesome. I wouldn’t mind hearing those songs again and I think she will be excited to play them again after these shows!

Now we need a thread about our dream GS setlist!

  12. How could you not remember your own lyrics to your songs? Damn, I haven’t listened to her solo stuff in a while and remember the lyrics.

  13. ^ Because she hasn’t listened to those songs in ages? We know all the words cause we keep listening to them almost every single day lol It’s normal she has to refresh her memory and re-learn part of the lyrics. Even David Bowie is known for memorizing lyrics before shows.

  14. Gwen has written and recorded so many songs in her career, I think it’s understandable that she can’t remember all of the lyrics.

  15. Gwen. You are so talented. I am so glad you are going on tour. I saw you last soo tour when no doubt came out on the encore. Then i saw you with no doubt the push and shove show at the amphiltheatre. I love your band. You of course being my favorite. I love your new videos supercute. Love the anamation. Maybe some day i will be lucky enough to met you. I would love to work with you. Hope. To see you soon. Lol
