Video: Gwen and Jeffery Austin Perform “Leather and Lace” on ‘The Voice’

Gwen and her artist Jeffery Austin performed together tonight for a special finale duet of “Leather and Lace”, a cover of Stevie Nicks and Don Henley’s 1981 single. The pair sounded wonderful together in a stripped down performance which is available now to download on iTunes.

During their recording session, Gwen shared with Jeffery that she found it surreal being in the same studio she’s recorded in many times over the years for such a special occasion. She said it’s crazy for her since she’s never made it to The Voice finale and felt excited to be in the studio with Jeffery for the first time. Jeffery thanked Gwen for pushing him to open up during the competition and found singing such emotional songs throughout very therapeutic.

On “Leather and Lace”, Gwen says that she thought it was a perfect song for them both lyrically and tone-wise.

Lyrics

Is love so fragile
And the heart so hollow
Shatter with words
Impossible to follow
You’re saying I’m fragile
I try not to be
I search only
For something
I can’t see

I have my own life
And I am stronger
Than you know
But I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won’t be walking out the door
Still I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won’t be walking out the door

Lovers forever
Face to face
My city or mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me
My lace

You in the moonlight
With your sleepy eyes
Could you ever love a man like me
And you were right
When I walked into your house
I knew I’d never want to leave
Sometimes I’m a strong man
Sometimes cold and scared
And sometimes I cry
But that time I saw you
I knew with you to light my nights
Somehow I’d get by

Lovers forever
Face to face
My city or mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me
My lace

Lovers forever
Face to face
My city or mountains
Stay with me stay
I need you to love me
I need you today
Give to me your leather
Take from me
My lace
Take from me
My lace
Take from me
My lace

  1. Support Gwen on Spotify and Youtube you guys!! It’s not a matter of forcing yourself to, just whenever you feel like listening to the song on iTunes, put it on youtube instead!!

  2. Gwen was absolutely gorgeous and sounded so beautiful, delicate, relaxing and great. I don’t care about Jeffery (he’s annoying), but Gwen was so great. I need to buy this song.

  3. No… not the best choice for HER. There were some Fleetwood Mac songs that would fit perfectly to her voice, but this Stevie song, does not. The intro sounded so forced to me, like she was out of compass. Still, I’m buying in support. BTW, I could totally see Gwen doing a version of Edge of Seventeen and making it perfect,

  4. I don’t think their voices go very well together. His is so overpowering. Her intro sounded better in the recorded version….even so, they did a nice job and she looked so pretty! I’m thinking he will come in fourth place.

  5. Yeah I don’t think their voices go well together at all. It’s still nice to have a new song even if it is just a cover with some random The Voice finalist nobody will remember in two months.

  6. Yeah I think Jeffery’s voice is too strong for this duet, but it’s still a cute song to have. Gwen sounds amazing! Finally I got the studio version. I definitely prefer it than live.
