Coverage: Sunday Of Fun With Michelle Obama

Update

Us Magazine — A quote from Michelle Obama’s speech — “I want to thank Gwen, in particular, for being so kind and gracious and hosting us all here at her beautiful home,” Obama, 48, said during the opening of her speech. “And even though Gavin [Rossdale] couldn’t be here, I also want to say a special thank you to him as well, and also to Kingston and Zuma,” she added of Stefani’s husband of nine years and their sons, 6 and 3, respectively. “I mean, they are letting all of us just enter their house, all the chaos, and they’re being so good about it today. So thank you, guys, for letting us come — indeed.”

** Out of respect for the band, we will NOT be sharing any exterior or interior shots of Gwen’s home. **

@tonykanal Thanks to everyone who came out to hang with us on a fun hot day. Great to see you all #bestfansever

It’s a wrap! We can only imagine how exciting this afternoon has been for the band, fans and attendees and even Mrs. Obama. Congratulations again to all the fans that were able to attend the event (and hob-knob with the band on a sunny afternoon!) We will keep adding photos to our gallery once they come in and updating with the latest.

Contact Music — America’s First Lady Michelle Obama joined No Doubt rocker Gwen Stefani at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday for a family party.

As part of a two-day trip to Hollywood, where Obama will be raising funds for her husband’s re-election campaign, Stefani’s new pal helped with face painting and balloon sculptures as well-off families enjoyed an afternoon with political royalty.

Families of four paid $2,500 (£1,500) for the chance to rub shoulders with the celebrity co-hosts at the home Stefani shares with husband Gavin Rossdale and their young sons.

The First Lady thanked guests for digging deep to attend the party, telling them, “Barack can’t do it alone.

He’s not Spider-Man. He’s not a superhero. He’s a human, so we need your help. I am not just talking to the adults here today. I am talking to the young people here as well.

“All of our young people – you might not be old enough to vote. You vote at school, I know – I met several young people who are going to be voting for my husband… We accept those votes. You can play an important role in this election, too. I want you all to feel empowered.”

And Stefani’s bandmates were thrilled to meet Obama – drummer Adrian Young and guitarist Tom Dumont both took to Twitter.com to chat about getting up close to the First Lady.

Young wrote: “Life in (No Doubt) land gets more strange and wonderful everyday,” while Dumont called Obama “so warm and sincere”.

Among the other celebrities at the party: Nicole Richie and her husband Joel Madden and actress Alyson Hannigan.

Deadline — Today the First Lady went first to a family-oriented fundraiser at singer Gwen Stefani’s Beverly Hills house around 1:40 PM.

It’s 1 PM PST, and FLOTUS has just arrived at the home of pop star Gwen Stefani. The house is in a gated community in Beverly Hills, just off Mulholland Drive. A long black slate driveway with its own black gate, lined by 8-foot shrubs, leads to the residence. Tickets for the event started at $2,500 for a family of four, with approximately 400 guests expected to attend, according a campaign official. Proceeds from the events will benefit the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee of Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties. The white, minimalist house has unobstructed views of the San Fernando Valley. Out back, there is an infinity hot tub that spills over into a vast infinity pool. Surrounding the pool are a half a tables covered with white tablecloths and accompanied by white umbrellas. There are also about a dozen picnic tables, also with white umbrellas.

It is unusually warm (91 degrees), and several jugs of ice water have been set up near the tables. The event has been billed as a “Sunday of Fun,” and on one side of the house is a hardcourt tennis court, which has been decorated for the event with bridge of red, white and blue balloons arranged in the form of an American flag. Various stations are set up on the tennis court, where children can get fake tattoos and balloon animals. Staff are dressed in black-and-white striped shirts; one wears a hat shaped like a hot dog, another a straw hat surrounded by fake flowers. Between the tennis court and the pool is a separate structure that houses a gym with treadmills and other machines. A transparent podium is positioned at the top of the steps leading up to the gym. Pool is holding in the garage.

  1. Aww! It does look stunning! Out of respect for Gwen though, I won’t be posting any photos of the exterior and interior of the house. This being a highly private function, I don’t think it would be appropriate. 🙂

  2. I agree with both. But we’re fans, we all want to see Gwen’s house. A lot of her stuff influences our style.

  3. Though the event was “private”, photos were allowed. If she didnt expect the photos to get out, no photos would have been allowed! Please please please share!!!

  4. NDer, those photos have been removed. I just don’t feel comfortable sharing interior and exterior shots of her current home. They could be found as extremely invasive. If interested, you can find some shots on other fansites, Twitter and Instagram. It’s just a personal choice :/

  5. I agree with you, Jenny! Those who would like to see them should google it; just my opinion 😉 Thank you so much, Jenny, for your wonderful website! Gwen looks so amazing as well as the guys 🙂

  6. I think pap-ed pics of her kids are way more invasive, but I respect your decision. Thank you for posting what you could.

  7. I didn’t see chelsea handler there…i did meet nichole richie, alyson hannigan, and no doubt. and we even got pics iwth the first lady! Jenny: Feel free to take any photos from my facebook and post them here me with the band, whatever you would like to post.

  8. screw obamas campaigne i hope it fails, regardless hopefully gwen and whomever else involved reached there goal for the kids……..
