The Sweet Escape 6th Anniversary

Everyone at Beacon Street Online would like to wish Gwen and her second solo album, The Sweet Escape, a very happy 6th anniversary! The Sweet Escape came out on this day back in 2006 and spawned singles “Wind It Up”, “The Sweet Escape”, “Early Winter”, “4 In The Morning” and “Now That You Got It” (which featured a new version with Damian Marley).

After the success of her debut solo album, Gwen was encouraged to get back into the studio (after giving birth to her first son, Kingston) and ended up releasing what was said as leftover tracks from the first record. With a working title of L.A.M.B. Part 2, Gwen again joined up with Pharrell Willams (after the success of “Hollaback Girl”) in July of 2005.

The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard charts selling 243,000 copies in it’s first week. The Sweet Escape has sold close to 1.7 million so far in the US alone. The a successful world tour also followed, which brought Gwen overseas for the first time due to her first pregnancy after the US leg of the Harajuku Lovers Live tour.

What’s your favorite track off the album?

  1. I liked L.A.M.B more than TSE but there are some great songs on here. Early Winter is one of the best songs ever written by Gwen and the melody is so great. Also love The Sweet Escape (how did this song not quite get to #1!) I remember it was everywhere in 07. Wonderful Life and Wind it Up are also great pop songs. Not a fan of Breakin Up or Dont Get It Twisted. I wonder what Sparkle would have sounded like!

  2. “The Sweet Escape” (song) was #2 on Billboard Hot 100 but it was blocked by Avril Lavigne’s comeback single “Girlfriend”. The funny thing was that it spent a LOT of time on the top 10 slot and it scored higher then “Girlfriend” on Billboard’s year’s end top 10 chart. It was #1 in the Europe chart and Worldwide chart.
