In a new interview from NYFW with Gwen, she revealed to MTV that she is indeed working on both solo and new No Doubt material and calls this “an amazing time”. A few weeks ago on the VMAs red carpet, she admitted that she was interested in releasing something on her own again alongside a new No Doubt album but she’s actually confirming that it’s now happening. She seems very, very excited and inspired to be working again!

“At this point I’m thinking about both, I can do both,” Gwen told MTV News during New York Fashion Week. “And it’s just an amazing time; so many opportunities. I’m going into the studio tonight with Pharrell [Williams], I’m going to be writing and also just seeing what comes along my way. I’ve been recording a few things. …”

It’s been reported and confirmed that Gwen is collaborating with Pharrell Williams again on new material, possibly for her solo project. No Doubt also teamed up with him again in the studio in the spring of 2013.

It’s unclear if this “new No Doubt material” is what the band had been working on previously last year or if they are indeed working again together.

Pharrell also spoke with MTV News about working again with Gwen.

“You’ll never believe that she does not look her age, she doesn’t look like she’s had three children — but that’s the cool part, she is her age and she’s had three children and she’s killing it,” Pharrell told MTV News at a separate NYFW event. “When I tell you she’s killing it, it’s another level. Gwen is somewhere else.”

Gwen also talked to MTV about her latest L.A.M.B. collection saying “the collection is reflective of my mood and what’s going on. It just feels explosive! It’s all colorful and happy. I want to just hold on to this moment.”

  1. I’m just so confused as to what the ND material is. Does she plan to release a full length ND album + solo and do press/singles videos for both? sooooooo many questions haha

  2. Exciting time to be a fan! 😊 I think it’s all part of a mega plan then. Maybe they thought that if they released that ND album last year it wouldn’t go anywhere like P&S. I actually think it’s clever if after releasing a solo album she immediately releases another album but with No Doubt. Getting Pharrell involved is giving me more confidence. I hope it’s something huge! 🙂 Just imagine if they decide to do a mixed tour, 1st part Gwen solo doing a short setlist and 2nd part No Doubt killing it on stage? It’d attract and unify different fan bases. I’m curious to see what it’s in the cards…

    1. I honestly see her releasing something on her own towards the end of the year, a new No Doubt next and then a big tour. I can’t see them intertwining solo/ND but who really knows at this point. I don’t think she’ll tour solo again, maybe a small radio tour again or something in the summer if so. I’m just really excited right now and really happy for everyone involved. Like you guys have all said, its a great time to be a fan again now!

  3. I hope so! I hope maybe her solo stuff fuels ND, so that this record can be more successful. While the fans appreciated P&S, it fell short making hits and getting any recognition. Then again, they also didn’t tour it. All the money comes from touring anyway and ND is a band meant to be recognized for their live performances.

It confuses me – Baby Don’t Lie could easily have been a ND track. If she’s gonna go solo, I want it to be more different – stuff ND wouldn’t do. Otherwise, I feel like it’s kinda disrespectful. ND has had such a hard time making records, and she made a solo album in 5 minutes! I’m still gonna love it, but my heart is with ND as a band and I really hope nothing weird is going on there. I hope they really are still working on a new record despite her solo stuff happening at the same time. I can’t shake a bad feeling that something is off kilter with ND. I haven’t heard any statements about her solo album from the band or defenses that they aren’t breaking up…

It seems it has become easier for Gwen to be on her own and make music with whatever producers and artists than do anything with ND these days. I hope Pharrell and other influences can help them get over their hump… because WE WANT ND! And I want a ND TOUR!

It is a great time to be a fan! She is absolutely adorable on The Voice. She’s just killing with a solo album. And maybe her fame is what is needed so that a new ND record can be relevant. I get that. I just really want to see No Doubt big again and the band prevail. No question Gwen can be a solo artist, but it’s not as much fun! We love ND!
