Gwen has given us an inside look at the album photo shoot with Jamie Nelson for This Is What the Truth Feels Like.
Just like the album itself, Gwen shared that she wanted to album artwork to be simple and reflect “what she’s been through”. She says that in the past she’s always had big visions for her solo records but wanted to go the exact opposite with this one. “I really don’t want a theme [for the record]. I want it to be emotional, like a light switch was just turned on. Something positive and reflective and emotional.” Gwen said that the album is just like a collection of her thoughts and feelings and a look at her calendar from the last year and how she’s felt.
Gwen calls photographer Jamie Nelson “one of the cutest girls” she’s ever seen and wanted to work with her after coming across some of her work. Gwen felt inspired to to keep with her ’60s theme (which she rocked on The Voice last season) and always loves to keep it retro. We’re treated to a sneak peek at more from the photo shoot (including a few looks that we haven’t seen yet!) and Gwen looks absolutely incredible.
The interview looks to had been recorded earlier this year with an excited Gwen saying she still hadn’t decided which songs to include on the album. She says that she has enough material for 2-3 records saying, “I’ve never, ever written this much in such a short amount of time. I just really want to pick the right songs that tell the story and the evolution. The way I started writing, I was in a place of darkness, and it turned to this really bright gratefulness.”
