New York Magazine — Johnny Depp has been named the “Hat Person of the Year” by the Headwear Association, a press release announces today. The mission of the Headwear Association (nickname: THA; age: 103) is “to promote hat wearing and the headwear industry throughout the world and foster goodwill and fellowship among those engaged in the headwear industry.”
In an online poll, Depp received 38 percent of the votes for “favorite hat wearing celeb,” beating Gwen Stefani (17 percent), Hugh Jackman (16 percent), Justin Timberlake (13 percent), Kate Hudson (9 percent) and Nicole Richie (7 percent).
This association’s mission is absolutely on point. More people should be wearing hats (we refer to all non-baseball cap styles). After all, Christian Dior himself once said, “Without hats we would have no civilization!” The only bad thing about Depp being honored for his hat affinity is that, while the world would be jollier and more civilized with a lot more hats in it, it would also probably be jollier and more civilized with few less fedoras.
