Update!

Media outlets are sharing quotes from Gwen’s new InStyle interview about her “struggles” over the last few years leading up to her separation from Gavin Rossdale. She expresses that she’s in “a really positive place now” and whom she credits for putting her on the right track.

Gwen opens up about her trouble writing Push and Shove and says that the time was really hectic for her by trying to balance work and family. “I didn’t tour at all. But I did record the No Doubt album, which was super hard. I was torn the whole time. Every day I would take the kids to school, drive to Santa Monica, work on the album, and then I’d think, ‘Oh my god, if I don’t leave by 2:30, I’m not gonna get home in time for dinner.’ And Gavin being on tour…” Gwen does says that there were some “incredible moments” while recording the band’s last album but finished by saying, “…but it was a lot of knocking my head against the wall. A lot of struggle.”

She also admits that it was tough transitioning into a mother and had to take time to accept her new reality. “In the beginning, I didn’t want to think of myself as a mother. I was like, ‘Wait a minute! Ain’t no hollaback girl is who I am!’ I had to learn to accept it.” Gwen knows that both being a mother and having a career are two different things but recognizes that it’s all about being yourself but with a lot more on your plate.

On finding inspiration while trying to write a comeback album, Gwen says it was difficult because she was in a “closed-off period”. “There were hard times before the baby, personally, that were just not good. And then having Apollo, and being on the show, and being refreshed: It was just like, ‘Whoa!’ I’m in a really positive place now.” Gwen credits close friend and collaborator Pharrell Williams for pushing and instilling confidence in herself again.

  1. I would love to see her do high-fashion magazines like V magazine and ID… I remember how awesome it was to see her in all her glory as she went solo with LAMB.

  2. Cover photos are never the most interesting. Speaking as someone in the photo industry, most cover shots follow a specific formula in order to appeal to the masses, garner attention/engage a viewer instantly with pretty simple, straight forward, subject starting into the camera shots.

    1. Personally, I love the cover. She looks fresh and I’ve always loved her hair like that. It has a festive feel too since it’s the holiday issue.

  3. Yeah…I’m not crazy about the cover either. Too much white. I chalk it up to poor editing/photoshopping.

Did she take out her extensions? Her hair looks thinner and more natural lately. And no black tips or thick bangs! Yay! 😀
