Harper’s Bazaar magazine has revealed that Gwen is featured on the cover of their issue for August! The article features a brand new photo shoot with photographer Alexi Lubomirski and a new interview with Laura Brown. The shoot took place earlier this year outside the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
In the interview, Gwen opens up about the inspirations behind her new album and how she’s still surprised at how she’s come so far. “I’ve never been the type of person who thought I would have any impact on anyone. I just didn’t even have those kind of dreams, you know?”
She also speaks candidly about her divorce sharing that it all started on “February 9, I obviously know the date… Everybody knows what happened next,” the day after she performed on the Grammy Awards with Adam Levine. Gwen obviously doesn’t go in to exactly what happened between her and her ex husband but says that everyone already knows “everything.” She kept the split a secret for her children’s sake saying, “It was the beginning of hell. Like six, seven, eight months of torture, trying to figure out this big secret.” She kept herself busy with The Voice and leaned on her good friend Sophie Muller.
Gwen also found herself leaning heavily on her faith again which she admits she “strayed from that.” “That’s my childhood, that’s how I was raised. And I think I strayed from that. But you know when it gets that bad, you just get desperate? You’re on your knees. You’re like, ‘What do I do?’ You can’t even go to your parents and ask them what to do.”
She continued by saying that her “dreams were shattered” and says that she’s always strived for a simple kind of life. “All I wanted my whole life was to have babies, be married, like what my parents have. Then I remember thinking,’There’s gotta be a reason for this.’ Of course you go through the ‘Why me?’ and feel sorry for yourself. But then I was like, ‘No, this happened to me already and I made something good out of it,’ and that was Tragic Kingdom.”
Though Gwen still shys away from her personal life, she reiterates that her new album is her personal life and feels like she’s now doing what she was always meant to do. “Every day is art, you know? Some days are really bad, and some days are so good.”
