We will have more coverage up as soon as it airs on the west coast, but check out a recap from USA Today which gives us an insider information on what Tony and Gwen thought of the remaining top 8 contestants on American Idol.

USA TodayColton Dixon: ‘Time After Time’

Gwen Stefani thought Time After Time was a strong choice for Colton, but when she heard it, she thought it sounded great.

Second verse gets a little more rhythmic, and the breakdown he worked out with No Doubt works beautifully.

Hollie Cavanagh: ‘Flashdance’

No Doubt tells Hollie, who’s singing the movie’s theme, to prepare, prepare, prepare — then go into free fall.

Jessica Sanchez: ‘How Will I Know’

Gwen Stefani loves Jessica’s voice, but she’d like to see her move in ways that are more unique and less like a lounge singer.

“She’s going to nail it,” Gwen says. “It’s going to be awesome.”

Joshua Ledet: ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’

“The song he chose is really, really good for him,” Gwen Stefani says.

Phillip Phillips: ‘That’s All’

No Doubt thought that was a perfect song for him — until they heard him sing it. He wasn’t ready with his performance during the rehearsal. So Tony Kanal suggests he quit playing the guitar on the bridge and just sing to somebody in the audience.

Elise Testone: ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’

So she sings a bit of Foreigner’s I Want to Know What Love Is and gives the two members of No Doubt goosebumps.

“I think that explosive chorus, that drama, is so you,” Gwen Stefani tells her. “But it’s also so ’80s.” She thinks the Foreigner song could be a magic moment for her.

Elise gives her usual excellent performance, and Gwen’s right about the chorus.

DeAndre Brackensick: ‘I Like It’

Mentor Gwen Stefani of No Doubt thinks he looks too worried. She thinks he’s the full package but still lacks confidence.
