Flashback Friday/Vote: ‘The Voice’ Live Performances

For this week’s Flashback Friday, we’re looking back at Gwen’s past performances on The Voice and we’re curious which one was your favorite. NBC’s hit singing competition show announced that Gwen will be returning as a coach for season 9 airing this fall.

Gwen first made her debut to The Voice back in May 2014 with a performance of “Hollaback Girl” alongside fellow coach and collaborator Pharrell Williams (which was a huge deal and and comeback for her solo career). While appearing on season 7, Gwen was able to take part in a few special and unique performances including “Hella Good” (with Pharrell, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton) as well the debut of “Spark The Fire” live.

We hope she takes advantage of the platform and performs more on the upcoming season!

  1. That Spark the Fire performance was pretty sweet!! I can she put her all into (trying at least) that one!!!!! I love the visuals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Spark the fire (worst song of the bunch though) only cause the performance itself was very good and it was exciting because it was the first solo performance of her new material.

  3. I really enjoyed both Have Yourself A merry Little Christmas and Hella Good because I liked seeing her perform with the other judges, but The Tide Is High was my winner.

  4. I love how some people feel the need to constantly point out how “bad” (in their opinion of course) Spark The Fire is. It’s ok if you don’t like the song, but do you really need to say it a million times?

  5. You answered your own question…it’s her opinion. You say how much you don’t like Together every time the topic comes up. STF had a strong reaction amongst fans and you are bound to get varying opinions on it.

I chose HYAMLC because her voice was pretty and I like having a traditional Xmas song in my Gwen collection 😉

  6. I think visually the STF performance was really great, even though Pharrell had absolutely no reason to be on stage just like there was no plausible reason for him to join Gwen during HBG. Vocally I liked “The tide is high” and “Have yourself…” the best. The STF performance really took me back the TSE days haha. The dancers, the giant cloud, Gwen’s cloud suit… if only I could like the song lol.

  7. I really enjoyed the Tide is High, was the best IMO. But Hella Good… was just a big no no to me. I hated what they did with the song, but then again, I speak for myself only.

  8. Amanda, I also can point out positive things about Together. I mean, I can live with it. I don’t think that’s the case with some fans about STF. They act like it was the worst thing Gwen has ever released and that’s not fucking true. It’s NOT that bad.

  9. To YOU it’s not that bad, but to others maybe it is. A lot of people hate Breakin Up and I don’t. So what? I’m still gonna like it and listen to it and I don’t get offended when others don’t like it.

  10. Whatever NDLOVER. I can post my opinion if I want to. I only voted Spark the Fire solely for the performance aspect.

  11. I don’t understand how you can hate STF! 😮 I consider myself a critical fan and I like this song, it is not her best or sooo great, but I think this song is soooo Gwen, not like BDL, that one is like it could be from anyone mainstream singer, but not from Gwen…

and for me the best performance was HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, the voice of Gwen is perfect! 🙂 <3

  12. I don’t hate it, but I don’t think it’s her best work and I understand why others dislike it. It’s certainly better (and more Gwen) than BDL. It’s got to be one of the most polarizing singles among fans LOL

  13. My favorite of those performances is The Tide is High and then Hella Good (although I wish it had been Tom, Tony and Adrian instead of those other guys). Spark the Fire is only good if you put it on MUTE. The only good thing about that video are the visuals. And yes, I too agree, Spark the Fire is definitely The Worst song Gwen has ever made. It’s just plain awful, such an annoying song, even worse than Breaking Up.

  14. Hm I don’t really get the dislike for Breaking Up that a lot of No Doubters seem to have. It’s not a masterpiece but the bass in it is pretty good. For me Serious rubs me the wrong way (which is actually a favorite among fans apparently). To each their own! 🙂

  15. Amanda g, I TOTALLY agree with u that STF is one of the most polarizing…the songs been out since last year and it still gets strong reactions and opinions lol

  16. For me STF had the same problem as BDL: Both songs just sound rushed and “unfinished” to me. I know Pharrell is famous for his minimalistic sound, but come on… there was just nothing in STF except for those annoying bells. The songwriting just wasn’t there either and “Who got the lighter? Let’s start the fire!” has to be the worst hook in pop history lol. I think this song just could’ve needed a little more time and it would have been a lot better.
