As the year winds down, we’re looking back at 2013 and highlighting some of the band’s biggest milestones and what to look forward to in the new year.

This year, No Doubt spent the first half of 2013 back in the studio, writing and recording new material after inspiration struck late last year. After working with some pretty impressive names, No Doubt seemed to take it easy towards the beginning of summer and focused on new projects individually.

We hope to hear more soon from the band in regards to what’s next for No Doubt and we also wish all the best and send our support on their future endeavors. We love and respect No Doubt so much and we thank them for another incredible year.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Jimmy Kimmel Live

No Doubt rang in 2013 by performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where fans were treated to a special mini-concert and the band also debuted the title track “Push and Shove” on TV for the first time. No Doubt also performed “Sparkle”, another cherished gem from Push and Shove; this was the only time fans were able to hear the album’s electric version live.

More items became available throughout the year exclusively at Build-A-Bear stores and online.

No Doubt’s Return to the Studio

In early January, No Doubt were buzzing with new ideas and were already working on new material for a future release. At the time, the band was still planning on touring in the year but later was postponed due to studio time. The band even stopped by a LiveNation Marketing Conference to hype their excitement for getting back on the road.

Over the coming months, No Doubt have reportedly teamed up with producers Shellbeck, Jim Jonsin, Skrillex, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, Rock Mafia, Greg Kurstin (whom was photographed working with the band in the studio), Pharrell Williams and Planet VI.

Gwen and The Rolling Stones

In one of the biggest surprises of the year, Gwen was invited to join The Rolling Stones live onstage in Los Angeles during their tour opener at the Staples Center. Gwen joined Mick Jagger for a special duet of “Wild Horses”.

Met Gala in New York

Gwen and Gavin rocked the red carpet together at the Punk: Chaos to Couture Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in May. Gwen wore two amazing looks and was notably one of the best dressed at one of fashion’s big nights out.

Gwen wore a gorgeous black and white design by Maison Martin Margiela and heels by Giuseppe Zanotti. She also excited the gala in a stunning Versace dress from Fall/Winter 2013.

Our hearts and love are always with the Young family and we thank him for sharing his stepmother’s brave and touching story and keeping her fight and memory alive with so many.

The telethon went on to raise over $59 million dollars.

Gwen for OPI Nail Lacquers

It was revealed in early October that Gwen was collaborating with OPI nail lacquers for an exclusive seven-shade collection due in January 2014. OPI shared the official press release with Beacon Street Online.

The line includes seven limited edition nail lacquers, featuring standout colors and breakthrough finishes. The collection will include shades named after songs and phrases inspired by Gwen: “Hey Baby,” “I Sing in Color,” “Love.Angel.Music.Baby.,” “4 in the Morning,” “In True Stefani Fashion,” “Push and Shove” and “Over & Over A-Gwen”. Gwen had teased her homemade photo shoot with niece Madeline (whom modeled for the shoot!) where Gwen took the place of hairdresser and makeup artist.

It was exciting and refreshing to see the line’s comeback and we hope to see more next year!

Another Hiatus

The buzz surrounding No Doubt in the studio ended in May, and in July, Tom confirmed the band was taking time off to “recharge their batteries”. Later in October, Tom shared that the band was indeed on another hiatus and new plans for No Doubt might be announced in the upcoming year.

Though possibly unrelated, fans went a little crazy when Gwen teased in December both having dinner with Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine and lunch with Push and Shove‘s producer/mixer, Mark ‘Spike’ Stent.

Probable Upcoming (Side) Projects

After their studio time towards the beginning of the year (which seemed to slow down around May), No Doubt certainly kept busy with other artists and projects that may surface soon and in the new year.

Notable ones included Tony joining the following in the studio: Neon Trees’ Tyler Glenn, Jessie and the Toy Boys’ Jessie Malakouti, singer/songwriter Breanna Kennedy and a possible side-group project including Toby Morse, Moby, Travis Barker and Luke Wessman. Morse had hinted that the group was working in the studio on something which would be revealed in 2014.

Adrian was photographed in the studio with Jelly of the Month Club, a children’s band from Long Beach featuring members of Sublime, The Ziggens and more in November.

In late November, Gwen also shared that fans can expect new things from her in the new year as well. Saying she wasn’t able to reveal anything yet, Gwen Tweeted photos from what looked like a new shoot of some kind in early December. Gwen’s new collaborative line with OPI nail lacquers hits beauty stores in January.

Rumors of a collaboration with both producer Ariel Rechtshaid and pop star Rita Ora surfaced shortly after for Gwen in the new year.

  1. This could have been a great year if they had done a tour and/or release new material. It kinda depresses me as a fan…

  2. Looking at all these things makes 2013 actually appear less shitty than it felt. The only things that frustrates me is that we don’t have anything to look forward to in 2014 as everything is still uncertain.

  3. Good summary. Thank you
So much to look forward to in 2014. Let’s see what they have up their sleeves for the new year.

  4. I still have some hope for a surprise waiting for us in 2014. Right now I just hope the rumours about a collaboration with Rita Ora are true. Gwen really needs a push again. Maybe their song would be a single and maybe it’d even be a hit… That could give Gwen some new confidence and fuel her ambition for music again.

  5. Great year in review, Beacon Street! Thanks for reminding me of all the great things that happened with the band this year! Before reading this article, my general feeling was that 2013 was somewhat of a letdown since ND didn’t tour, but now I am reminded of all the other things that made the year fun! I mean, to be honest, despite not touring, the band had a very full year! I’m excited for the many surprises that 2014 will bring!
