American Idol Hopefuls Cover "The Sweet Escape" In Hollywood Week; Videos Added

We’ve been told that during round two of Hollywood week on American Idol (that airs tonight), several of the groups cover Gwen’s “The Sweet Escape,” which apparently didn’t go over well with Simon. We’ll try and find some videos if fans are interested in checking them out.

USA Today — Several groups chose Gwen Stefani’s The Sweet Escape, but their performances sound more sour.

The last group to take a shot at Stefani’s song is Big Dreams, which includes Matt Lawrence and Amanda Shechtman. Matt botches the first line, and Amanda just looks lost. Simon stops them. Randy chuckles. “It was so horrific,” Simon says, and he doesn’t even put them through the tension of stepping forward. They’re all gone, their big dreams shattered.

EDIT

Came across a video of the two performances of “The Sweet Escape” last night where both teams butchered it really bad. I also added another video to make up for the damages.

  1. I saw that episode tonight and only one girl got the line

“Cause I’ve been acting like sour milk all on the floor

It’s your fault you didn’t shut the refrigerator

Maybe that’s the reason I’ve been acting so cold? “

right. The rest sucked at singing it. I think they should have chose a different song of Gwen’s to sing. It’s kind of a tough one to sing..

  2. I don’t watch AI anymore, but that first group was awful. Even if that 5th person hadn’t quit at the last minute they still would have sucked! Anyway, the rest of the groups version of The Sweet Escape was dreadful. They had no idea what they were doing.
