It’s voting time again! Awhile back we mentioned on our Facebook that VH1′s new 100 Greatest Women in Music countdown was coming up and Gwen would obviously be eligible to vote for! The poll is now up, and we can not only vote for her in the “All Time” category but also the “rock” list as well. Currently though right now the poll seems to be down for everyone. Voting is tallied by either signing into your Facebook or Twitter accounts and sharing your votes. You can vote up to three times a day! Spread the word to all your friends because Gwen definitely deserves a spot high on this list!
So cute! Gwen, Gavin and their two boys were spotted fishing together at Troutdale Ponds in Agoura Hills yesterday afternoon and it looks like they caught some big ones! Later on they were seen doing some shopping in Malibu. Love Gwen’s pants!
Earlier this week we mentioned that Gwen was in Hollywood filming her new L’Oreal campaign, and now we have picture proof! Check out this photo of Gwen on the monitors shared by director Fabien Constant. From what we can see, she looks stunning as always! As we mentioned before, we are not quite sure what campaign she is shooting for or whether it will be for film or print. We will keep you posted!
We just wanted to mention that the latest L.A.M.B. collection, Spring 2012, as been added to the official site. The press section has also been updated including more footage from the last fashion show and recent sightings and mentions in magazines. Our friends at EIT have ripped and uploaded the video (which gives us a better look at the jewelry, too!) from the website below for fans that are not able to view it.
Tom took to his official site to show off his guitars that he’s been working with recently. He’s also expecting some new additions next week!
Tom Dumont — Back in the studio with No Doubt this week. Pictured here is my current tool box: two Hamers and three Fenders. Looking to get one of Grover Jackson’s new GJ2 creations here next week. Might need a Gretsch too…
It seems that whenever the band goes on studio Tweeting sprees, so does the inter webs. The media is buzzing again about the new album and stirring more anticipation than ever. We’re just all waiting for a release date and single news now! The band seems to be really pushing hard towards finishing the album by March!
Spin — The No Doubt saga continues: yesterday afternoon, Tony Kanal tweeted from the band’s account, “Gwen back in the studio with us. Nothing like having the four of us in the same room making music.” But, uh, haven’t they been in the same room making music for the past two years? Here’s how we know No Doubt have been spending their time:
January 2009: After five years of no touring, and eight years of no studio albums, No Doubt announces that they will embark upon a 52-date North American tour, with Paramore as their openers.
May 2009: The band is featured on the cover of SPIN. We say they’re back in the saddle!
May 2010: The band tweets photos of the whole gang, together again, announcing that they had returned to the studio together for the first time since Rock Steady.
July 2011: The band tweets photos — again — of their recent studio sessions, revealing that they were working with Major Lazer on the new record.
September 2011: The band publishes a blog post on their website that explains that the album needs more massaging, and that a 2011 release, as previously promised, was looking more like a dream than reality.
January 2012: Tony’s aforementioned tweets about being in the studio — again. A few days before his latest tweet, No Doubt’s feed posted, “Gwen we’re gonna Skype you in 10. New chord idea for Dreaming! Try to stay up.”
We’ll say this: At least the band looks extremely happy to be in the studio. But it’s been 11 years — 11 years! — since Rock Steady. Prior to this, the group’s longest gap between albums was the five-year period between 1995′s Tragic Kingdom and 2000′s Return of Saturn, and the latter was about 1/10 as successful as the former.
Graphic designer Dirk Fowler recalls working with No Doubt back in 2009 on a few posters (23 actually to be exact!) for the summer tour. He admits that he never really heard the band’s music before working with them, and found No Doubt to be easy to work with. They loved everything that he came up with, and I know I can speak for fans saying that most of the posters created were amazing and the artwork was out of this world.
Most of his posters from the tour can be found on Gig Posters and Merch.
Daily To Reader — Gwen Stefani and several other popular musical artists and bands have asked one Texas Tech associate professor to create handmade posters for them.
One of Fowler’s favorite bands to work with — but he did not consider himself a fan of — was No Doubt.
“I didn’t really listen to No Doubt and they asked me to make 23 posters for them and they were very, very easy to work with,” he said. “They loved everything I did and so, I don’t necessarily have to like the music, I just have to be able to respect the artist that I’m doing work for.
“They were just so great to work with. They’re pretty well known. That’s a pretty large client and to do that much work for them was a great opportunity.”
Friends of ours at OC Weekly have posted a new article in which they praise the band for not distancing themselves away from Orange County once they hit it big like others.
OC Weekly — Take No Doubt, who emerged from the epicenter of ska’s third wave right here. They unabashedly sang about their hometown of Anaheim and used citrus-based imagery in their videos. Despite becoming a blinged out holla back girl, Gwen Stefani continues to publicly claim her home turf.
Other bands who have yet to become OC deniers include the Aquabats, the Vandals, Reel Big Fish and Offspring.
